Blues Riding Wave That Threatens To Blow Atletico Madrid Aside

Two weeks ago, many wondered if Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side were fatally flawed. Now, some are wondering if they have any flaws at all.Defeat to Aston Villa, with both goals coming from set pieces, unleashed the hounds. But the subsequent four games have seen four wins, with not a goal conceded and money put away at the other end.

Victory at Bolton on Saturday, with a 4-0 scoreline that included a team goal of sumptuous quality that was slotted home by Didier Drogba, dispelled the notion many had (or hoped) that the Blues were poor travellers. From the brink of catastrophe then, Chelsea are now riding the crest of a wave - with a momentum that looks difficult to stop. Just the Champions League challenge of Atletico Madrid stands in the way of the Blues preparing for their match against Manchester United in the best possible form.

Their fortunes are in stark contrast to those of title rivals Liverpool. Ancelotti is not a mean man, and will take little pleasure in observing Rafa Benitez's current troubles. But the Italian will note the Reds' recent travails and be thankful that he has inherited a squad of far stronger depth, and in far greater health. After all, when it is going for you, it really is going for you.

Four wins, 17 goals scored and none conceded in the last week - few could ask for much more
